The First Day Mark

Until 1887 there was no daymark, the lighthouse being plain white from top to bottom.

 

 

 

Did you know?

The last lighthouse built by the Coast Guard was in Charleston, SC in 1962.

This is also the only lighthouse in the United States that has an elevator.
