The
Fifth Day Mark
In
1965, for unknown reasons, the Day Mark of the Tybee Lighthouse was
changed for a fifth time to a gray top and white bottom. The pattern
lasted long enough for the gray to fade and the Mark to be even weaker.

Did
you know?
That
prior to 1881 the light was fueled by lard, yes, that's right, lard!
It was not only expensive, required pre-heating but it congealed in
cold weather. The fuel was changed to mineral oil.
